8th Regiment
Band Brings Historic Sounds to B*ATL,
B*ATL, is proud to bring The Eighth Regiment
Band to the historic Battleground neighborhoods of the Battle of
Atlanta . The band will be performing along
the frontlines of the 1864 Battle in today's East Atlanta
Village in a 90 minute concert that will be free to the public.
The concert will be part of a day of fun activities for the
entire family on Saturday July 20st. The ensemble brings to life
in a very lively way a piece of American history by representing
the hundreds of military bands that were formed in the Union and
Confederate Armies during the Civil War. The 8th Regiment
appearance is sponsored by the East Atlanta Beer Fest.
The 14-member band performs music from both
sides of the conflict in replica blue and gray uniforms, with
appropriate dialogue and action. They create a program intended
to be "a museum of 19th-century American emotions." "We dress,
feel and act so that you'll think you're in a time capsule. So
you can feel what the men and women of the Civil War period
felt" said director John Carruth.
Echoes of the Civil
War
Listen to master storytellers bring alive the Civil War in this new theatre piece of voices from the past. BATL is partnering with The Southern Order of Storytellers to present this exciting production of tales starring Christina Johns, Barry Stewart Mann, Sarah Beth Nelson, Ann Ritter and Terri Surratt with music from The Bow Weevils string ensemble. This is just one of the many programs of this year’s BATL event Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta.
BATL Presents the East Atlanta Village Guerrilla Theater production of Carol Burnett's "Went with the Wind" and an original adaptation "Letters Home"
Two short shows wrapped into an hour of entertainment that will take you on an emotional roller coaster. A dramatic description of the Civil War from the ones who lived it is portrayed in the EAVGT's original adaptation of the book Bull Run in their performance "Letters Home". In true East Atlanta style, a comedic ending is provided by their rambunctious rendition of the Carol Burnett parody, "Went with the Wind".

B*ATL is raising
money to restore Atlanta's two battlefield monuments-the
McPherson Monument and the Walker Monument located in the
historic BATL neighborhoods. We also hope to erect and maintain National Park-like display signs
across the battlefield area to augment existing historic
markers. The new signs would have graphics and maps to involve
readers more and provide a 365-day-a-year B*ATL
experience for visitors as well as area residents.
